Ingredients in cigars

Cigars manufactured by Swedish Match are either handmade or machine made. Handmade cigars are made entirely by hand with a tobacco leaf wrapper, binder and long filler tobacco (so-called frog strips). Machine made cigars are made by means of a machine, using wrappers and binders and cut or short filler tobacco. Cigars are manufactured in various sizes and shapes.

Additives are added to all cigars. The most common additive of all cigars is a tiny drop of glue to hold the wrapper, binder and filler together.

For faster production of some machine made cigars, homogenized tobacco leaf (HTL) is used in the binder and sometimes in the wrapper. HTL mainly consists of finely divided tobacco with some binding additives making a regular tobacco sheet that can be used in cigar manufacturing.

Less and less cigars today have dusting powder added to the outer wrapper. This is applied to equalize the appearance of the product.

A growing number of cigars contain specifically developed flavors in combination with the tobacco in order to achieve a distinct taste and/or smoke aroma.
